"Build Peace through Health and Sports"
By Seurinane Sean Española and Michaelle V. Harun

The Davao Medical School Foundation celebrated its 28th Foundation Day last August 4-6, 2005, with the theme “Building Peace through Health and Sports.” The three-day celebration was flooded with activities that stirred the creative juices and talents of the students. It also promoted solidarity and sportsmanship. Truly it was a festivity, written on the pages of this institution, not to be forgotten.

The Cheerdance Competition

The early morning was blessed as the sun shone with its might last August 5, 2005. With its valor came the dignified force of hardworking, body swaying men and women who sweat a lot for the Cheerdance Competition. Bet you it was hard work. A lot of compromised studies, health and wealth had been undergone by these willing men and women of different colleges of different year levels. And yet they showed up with grace, eased with poise and strut their way to the dance floor as the song blared into the air and hit the air waves.
It was a sight to be seen. A sound to behold. Everybody dances to the music as the eyes glared with envy as these brave men and women waved their bodies capturing the eyes of those who behold. Catching a glimpse of it is like catching a glimpse of the Olympics. They showed up with colorful uniforms as they showed their talent that is pure DMSF.
Up scale emerged three winners, two of which the College of Medicine is proud of. The third place went to the College of Nursing. The second place went to Med 1 who gave a very outstanding performance. Filled with energy and vigor, they showed that freshmen are of equal match to everyone. Up in first was Med 2, who had charmed the viewers with mystery as they showed up in a very enigmatic appeal. With their faces covered with black cloth they emerged from the back of the audience radiating unfathomable feeling for those who see. The throwing of the black cloth revealed a group of Egyptian dancers ready to stun the crowd with their careful and intricate moves. Set with the mood of an Egypt empire they awed the viewers, giving them one performance they would never forget.
The CheerDance competition finished with success proving that Davao Medical School students are not only good in academics but also shows up a spark in the non-academic world. After all, our brain needs rest from the piling chapters in the books to be read. Even for a while...only for a while.

Fun Run 2005

Trust me, last August 5, 2005, I saw, I felt and I could almost taste sweat. Fun Run, a yearly event of race with obstacles, puzzles and fun was held. The race took off at 5:30 am at Davao Medical School ground. The players, almost 81 of them, and all excited before the race, stretched and prepared themselves for one race they would never forget.
The Fun Run committee prepared seven stations with hard core obstacles that tested their mental and physical skills. Every station was named to their corresponding games: Station 1- finder’s keepers; Station 2- plant my eggs; Station 3 -stick-o-ball; Station 4- suck me; Station 5- wrap d’ crap; Station 6 -beautiful mind and lastly, Station 7 - death march.
The challenges involved in the 5-kilometer race wherein contestants were provide with plastic bags, eggplants and eggs, ball and sticks, straws, gift wrappers and ribbons, puzzle pieces and ropes for each of the hurdles respectively. The players eased their way through each challenge and crossed the finish line.
The ultimate challenge of this race did not depend on the obstacles met along the way but instead lies on the will to finish the race when all the stored hope seemed to have been lost and gone (and not to mention the depleting glucose and glycogen stores). So ‘til the next race. Don’t forget to load up!!! (Carbohydrates, here we come!!!)
