Ten research groups from Davao Medical School Foundation Inc. participated in the Regional Health Research and Development Consortium XI in Grand Regal Hotel in Davao City. The representatives introduced their studies according to their respective competitions; Oral Presentation and Poster Exhibit, where they belonged in the Graduate Category, October 4.

In both oral presentation and poster exhibit, the study “Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis L.) Crude Leaf Extract as Putative HIV-1 Protease Inhibitor, an In Vitro Study” placed first and is bound to compete for the nationals. On the other hand, “Effects of Asparagus Officinalis L. on Fasting Blood Glucose and Uric Acid Level in Metformin-treated Type 2 Diabetic Individuals of Davao City” earned 2nd place in the poster exhibit, while “Pulmonary Function of Public Market Retailers Chronically Exposed to Fruit Ripening Agent (Calcium Carbide) in Davao City” earned the 3rd in the oral presentation.

When asked about how she feels about their win, Allisa Mae Goneda of the Lemon Balm research group expressed, “With all honesty, wala just mi nag expect na madaog mi. Ang amin nalang as a team is bonus na jud na nakasulod mi sa regionals. We are thankful na na-appreciate sa panel and sa mga readers among paper.” She also added that Dr. Miko Buhay is the best mentor and is very hands-on, “Wala jud mi gibiyaan from the start. And of course Department of Pharmacology, especially Dr. Genevieve Tupas and Dr. Maureen De Guzman for guiding us.”

In spite of the event’s conclusion, representatives of each group gathered contentedly, having been successful in their respective presentations, taking home their triumph.
