COLLEGE OF BIOLOGY

 

This course discusses basic principles in plant biology with emphasis on morphology, anatomy, structural organizations and functional activities; it also discusses on the plant diversity, ecology, reproduction and evolution. It consists of two units (3 hours) of lecture sessions and two units (6 hours) of laboratory work per week, for a total of five units.

COURSE GOALS

To provide students basic understanding of the plant world as it relates to man. To encourage students' interest in current ecological and enthnobotanical issues, such as endangered species, invasive species, edible species, insectivorous planst, biofuels, etc.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Upon successful completion of the course, the student can

1. Apply the basic principles, concepts and theories of plant structure and function and its interaction with other living and non-living organisms;

2. Appreciate the importance of plants to medical science;

3. Develop critical thinking skills.
